Being a technology buff, I had to have one of these when if first came out.
It is called the Isolite. Check it out at
http://www.isolitesystems.com/
It does a number of things that are helpful for you, the patient and the dentist. I'm always behind the belief that when your dentist is happy and has the best conditions, then all things being equal, the dental procedure (fillings, cavity, tooth pulled, etc.) will be done right. And isn't that most important for the patient?
You don't want to come in multiple times for the same procedure because the dentist botched the procedure the first time, right?
What isolite does is 1) light up the field so your dentist can see. 2) it keeps your tongue out of the way. Believe it or not, though considered the fastest muscle in the body, the tongue can be the biggest menace to the dentist when performing a filling. 3) The isolite keeps the area dry. It is attached to the vacuum system so that when your mouth oozes our more saliva, it is captured.
I personally feel this is a must have if I am a dentist and it should be one too if you are a patient.
Call your dentist. If they don't have or use one of these, then look elsewhere. It will save you and your dentist time, money and energy.
