If you love going to the movies or if you would rather visit Blockbuster, it may cost thousands of dollars in dental
care. When you order popcorn with your movie, you are pretty much asking for a CRACKED TOOTH. When eating popcorn, you will always find a kernel or 2 in the mix. Grab a handful, pop them all in your mouth, chew, and OUCH! You try to bite into a kernel and it splits a tooth sending Sharp, Mind Numbing Pain up your tooth and through your brain. This happens day in and day out all across the nation. Why does this happen? Most of the time it is because we all have weak teeth. Week teeth lead to cracks which leads to fractures and eventually, root canals. When we are young, it doesn't matter that we eat peanuts, popcorn, ice cubes, and other candies like jolly ranchers (my favorite). But just like every other part of our body that weakens over time, our teeth do the same - they age. If you were 50 years old, you would not ski down a double diamond mogul ridden slope like when you were 18. You won't do the same with the "teeth cracking" foods you ate at 18 when you are 50. It just doesn't work that way. So Watch out! Either pick up the popcorn one by one and pop them in your mouth, or risk going to the dentist for an uneventful root canal and pricey bill that goes along with it. Until next time, Dr Marvin
